This manual was developed in order to provide physicians with a brief guide of the essential and current information for the diagnosis, classification, and management of infants, children, and adolescents who may have or do have HIV infection. A section on prevention was added as an aid to counseling of adolescents and parents on the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV and methods of preventing pregnancy in an HIV infected mother. This is by no means a comprehensive review of HIV infections. For a more comprehensive review of HIV infections in pediatrics, please refer to the references listed at the end of the manual.
